performing the PanEuRhythmy in the Rila Mountains in 1977, hidden from the existing Communist rule.
This sacred dance from Eastern Europe was developed by the visionary musician, spiritual teacher, and Christian minister
Peter Duenov almost 100 years ago. Secretly practiced during the Communist era in the Bulgarian Rila Mountains north
of Greece, the simple dance movements are performed in a circle, outdoors at dawn, from the spring equinox until the fall
equinox. The first 10 of the 28 movements, called "The First day of Spring," represent the unfolding of the
human soul from "Awakening" to "Flying." Phyllis Thorpe, the first American designated to teach the dance,
will be with us in Springfield to demonstrate and share these first 10 moves. She will bring music, books,
and a keen knowledge of PanEuRhythmy from both the United States and abroad. |
